Roll forming captivates as a clean maching process. The forming tools use the flowing properties of the machined material to form the internal thread. Unlike thread cutting, it is a completely chipless process.
This means that not only is there no need for part cleaning, but also no chips can be dragged along the production lines. This characteristic, combined with long tool life and process reliability, is what defines the thread formers in our DURAMAX family.
Special geometries allow the use of our roll taps in a very wide range of materials. The DURAMAX feels at home in steel, stainless steel as well as brass and copper.
From tapping units to conventional machining, the thread formers are suitable for every application. Special connections for manufacturers such as Trumpf or Amada are available as standard, as well as all common thread types.
Tips for machining
oil grooves
Very thin-walled components can bend slightly during machining. If a tool with oil grooves is used, it is possible that the groove will create chips.
Still, an oil groove can be useful in sheet metal machining. The grooves secure a better supply of the cooling lubricant and thus lead to a significant increase in tool life.
tool tip
In sheet metal processing, thread formers without a tip are used as a rule. This reduces the travel path and, conversely, also the cycle time or the cutting speed for the same cycle time. Both of these factors are beneficial to the service life of the tool.
However, if there are positioning problems, the tool tip is indispensable as an insertion aid.
